This is just a nice-to-have, but I was wondering if there was a way for the docking station to automatically wake up a sleeping laptop when it is connected? I have a Dell docking station at work that does this with Dell laptops, so it may be a proprietary thing.

You are unfortunately correct that the wake from sleep feature of a dock is proprietary and not available on third-party docking stations like ours. However, waking the laptop via USB keyboard connected to the dock should be possible, though that can depend on the host and BIOS settings.
