Intermittent connection

Hi, I have a Model USB3-HUB7-81X, Super Speed USB 7 port Hub. I have my WD passport usb 3.0 drive plugged into the hub and every so often I get a message saying the drive is available as if it had been unplugged and plugged back in. I also tried to connect my Galaxy S5, which is USB 3.0 to the hub on the first and second ports and the light did not light up. Is the unit bad or is there something else going on? I’ve had the WD passport for over a year and when it was plugged into a USB 2.0 hub it worked fine and didn’t connect/disconnect.
