install USB-VGA display adapter on laptop with dead monitor

I’ve got a laptop running Windows 7 where the monitor went dead, I’m trying to install the Plugable USB to VGA adapter. I can boot the PC by entering the password after waiting for the PC to boot. I know the PC is up by connecting to a network share. I installed the USB/VGA adapter on another pc with a working monitor and saw that it took 2 tabs and a return to accept the license once I plugged in the .USB connector without running the setup program. Got the second monitor to work without doing any configuration. Didn’t seem to work on my problem PC. Would taking the disk out and inserting the drivers manually in the appropriate windows directories work. This is just a temporary workaround so I can change user accounts, passwords on the PC and then take it to a repair shop.
