I just received the docking station but I didn’t know I would need a CD drive to download the driver. I’m using Windows 8 on a MS Surface tablet. No CD drive.

Thanks for posting your question here! If Windows Update is enabled and the system has Internet connectivity when the Plugable UD-3000 is connected to the system for the first time, the drivers for the product would be automatically downloaded and installed if you are logged in as a user with administrative rights on the system.
Otherwise you would have to do a manual install of the drivers which can be downloaded from http://plugable.com/drivers/displayli…
Not having a CD drive would not be a problem.
