- the docking station will not charge my laptop. No errors

Given this behavior I suspect that your system does not support charging over USB-C nor will it support powering the 4K HDMI port on the dock. The error you are getting about the limited connection means that the C port on your system is for USB data only.
We’ve seen this on other HP Pavilion laptops, but we’ve not specifically tested your model before so the above theory is unproven. If you have the exact model number for your system I can try to look up the actual supported features.

14-dh0008ca is the model number, if it’s not compatible is there a docking station that will work? Ml
Thanks for the info. I’ve confirmed the C port is data only and does not support USB-C Alternate Mode video or charging.
For a dock you’ll want to look into a more traditional USB 3.0 model which can add two screens. Of course there won’t be charging from a dock like this. Our most popular model is our UD-3900:
