How to provide power to a PLUGABLE USB 2.0 10/100/1000 GIGABIT ETHERNET ADAPTER

I’m using the PLUGABLE USB 2.0 10/100/1000 GIGABIT ETHERNET ADAPTER with a Nexus 10. Even with a Pogo cable providing power to the tablet, the Ehternet slowly drains the battery. Is there a solution to this problem?

Hi David,

Thanks for posting your question here! All our USB Ethernet adapters including Plugable USB2-E1000 are high powered USB devices that require close to the max power of 500 mA as per USB 2.0 specification in order to power up and function.

To avoid draining the battery of the upstream system, we always recommend getting a self-powered USB hub (which comes with a power adapter that will power it and downstream devices from a live power outlet) that is capable of providing 500 mA of power per port and connect it between the system and any high powered USB device.

If you connect a powered hub capable of providing 500 mA of power per port between the Nexus 10 and Plugable USB2-E1000, then the hub will provide the power for Plugable USB2-E1000 to function instead of the battery of Nexus 10 and that will eliminate the drain.

Hope the above information helps! If you need any additional information, please do feel free to shoot us an email at support@plugable.com. We are here to help!
