I am able to boot the yoga from usb and I can make the the winPE bootable usb drive, however I dont think I am installing the right driver when I do it b/c I cannot get the client machine to talk to the server via ethernet cable + plugable usb adapter.

What version of winPE are you using?
In the past I have used a bootable Norton Ghost to restore clients from a Norton Ghostcast server. This was in a DOS environment and not winPE. For that scenario and environment I needed to use Windows 9x drivers.
