Help WIth Basic Linux/Ubuntu Connectivity?

Hi,

I just purchased the UD-CA1 and am just trying to get Ethernet and a USB mouse and keyboard working. I’m running Ubuntu 16.10. I’ve plugged in and powered on the device, but can’t seem to make progress getting anything plugged into the dock usable from my laptop. I’ve attached a screenshot from usbview showing it’s connected. Also, when I tail the kern.log I see output like below. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Mike

Hi Mike, thanks for posting! I am sorry to hear that our dock is not working as expected on your Linux system and I will be happy to help.

Thank you for the description of the issue and providing the screenshot and log output.

Just to clarify, would you be able to let us know the brand and model of system that you are using?

Also, would you be able to confirm that you are using the USB-C cable that came with the docking station? I’d like to confirm this as not all USB-C cables have the same function and support so.

Please let us know these additional pieces of information whenever you have a moment and we will go from there.

Thank you,

David W.

David - thanks for the response. Between you and Josh from Support, I appreciate your help.

I’m using an Oryx Pro from System76 (oryp3). I had contacted System76 support about this too and they said, “I know for fact that HDMI won’t work out of the USB-C on the Oryx”. I’d like to know why that is (e.g. if it’s a hardware limitation of the laptop itself or something that could be possible down the road with an upgrade). So unfortunately it looks like I’m out of luck with HDMI, but I’d hope/expect basic peripherals to be supported.

I am indeed using the USB-C cable that came with the dock. Again, thanks for your help.

Mike

David,

System76 support contacted me to say that they had the same model dock to test with and unfortunately, had similar results. “We tested out a USB type-C dock and it was generally non-functional, the only thing recognized was the USB hub. That looks like what you’re seeing, too.” Unfortunately, it looks this the dock might not be workable in my current environment, which is unfortunate because Plugable support has been superb. Thanks.

Mike
