For a Windows laptop with a UD-3900, I would like to output stereo sound to two unpowered external speakers (Klipsch Quintets) through the dock’s 3.5 mm headphone jack. Each speaker has the traditional red and black RCA jacks. Is it possible to produce sound at moderate volume? If so has anyone found a cable to split the single laptop 3.5 mm jack to two RCA speakers with four jacks?
Hello Mike,
Normally you will want to run your audio through a preamp to get the best results. Since I am unsure what your definition of “moderate volume” is it is difficult to answer this question. You will hear audio but the volume levels may not suit your requirements. That being said regarding connection, you could purchase a 3.5mm splitter then connect a 3.5 to RCA on each port. I provided a couple of links below as examples.
3.5 mm splitter cable

3.5mm to 2-Male RCA Adapter Audio Stereo Cable
https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-3-5mm-2-Male-Adapter-Stereo/dp/B01D5H8JW0
Should you elect to move forward with the purchase of these cables you could always try them out to see if they provide the solution you require and if not Amazon provides a 30-day no-hassle return policy.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Michael S.
