hdmi to display port

hi,

Got the plugable U-3900 want to use both hdmi and dvi to two monitors, the dvi port works; using hdmi to display port for second monitor ? It does not see second monitor. Laptop is a Dell E7450. Should this work or do I have use the hdmi port on the laptop to the monitor?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for posting. I’d be happy to help with your docking station!

The cable you are using with a HDMI connector on one end and the DisplayPort connector on the other is most likely a passive cable. This cable will only allow the conversion of a DisplayPort output to a HDMI input, not the other way around as you are trying to do.

Does your monitor with the DisplayPort input also have a DVI input? If that is the case you could use a HDMI to DVI cable as those cables work in both directions.

Let us know if that information helps when you have a moment and we’ll go from there.

Thank you,

Bob

Hi Bob,

I may have the same/similar issue. I have two old monitors that one take DVI or VGA input, so I bought an adaptor to convert HDMI to VGA. Using the DVI port on the U-3900 works fine on both monitors but when using the HDMI/VGA connection the screen is blank. The computer recognises the display as it is visible on the control panel–>appearance–>display–> ‘screen resolution’ set-up - in actual fact it recognises 3 screens though I only have 2 - but there is no picture. I can’t see anything in the HDMI/VGA connector specification that suggests its passive (see http://www.kenable.co.uk/product_info…) but could that be the issue? Do I need a better connector or a new monitor to get this to work?

Thanks in anticipation

Ian

Hi Ian,

If I am not mistaken, this post –> http://support.plugable.com/plugable/… is also you, correct?

If that is the case we’ll continue in that new thread, as your issue seems different than the original post in this topic.

Thanks,

Bob
