HDMI Ports 3 and 4 does not allow for 1080 resolution

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X1. After setting up the UD3900C4 with 3 externals monitors and using the laptop internal monitor the monitor plugged into HDMI 3 or 4 port will not allow 1920x1080 resolution. The system only allows 1024x768 or 800x600. Everything else seems to be working fine. How can I adjust so that HDMI ports 3&4 will allow 1920x1080?

Hi Paul,

The first thing I would check is to ensure that you have the latest DisplayLink driver installed for your UD-3900C4 on your Lenovo ThinkPad X1. I went ahead and provided our manual, clean installation instructions below for your convenience. These steps will help you install the latest recommended version and reset your DisplayLink software to ensure it’s in a known good state.

To conduct these steps:

  1. Please disconnect the dock from the system and disconnect the power cable from the dock so it turns off completely (this is important so the unit resets). Please keep everything disconnected until the last step.

  2. Uninstall any and all software with ‘DisplayLink’ in the title that is present from within the Control Panel → Programs and Features. Don’t worry if these entries are not present or if the process does not work, please just move onto the next step.

  3. Download and run the DisplayLink Installation Cleaner utility, found here → https://plugable.s3.amazonaws.com/bin/DisplayLink/DisplayLink+Installation+Cleaner11.2.1383.0-EXE.exe and ensure it displays “Cleaning Complete” when done (video walk-through if you need it → https://youtu.be/AcVV1gD_FvI)

  4. Once the Cleaner has been run, reboot the system (even if not prompted to).

  5. Now download and install the DisplayLink software driver, found here–> https://plugable.s3.amazonaws.com/bin/DisplayLink/DisplayLink+USB+Graphics+Software+for+Windows11.4+M0-EXE.exe

  6. Once complete, please reconnect the power cable to the dock first. Once the dock is powered on, reconnect it to your system. If the device is not detected, please reboot the system and test to see if you are able to achieve the desired resolution.

If that does not help, we would like to take a closer look at your system to better assist you, but this will require some additional information. Instead of posting that information here, could you please contact us directly via email? To do this, please email us at support@plugable.com. In the subject of your direct email, please reference case #441308, which will allow us to match things up and then provide the next steps.

Apologies for the extra steps in this process, and we thank you for giving us the chance to help!

Best regards,

Michael S.
