Has anyone had success with this dock with a HP zbook G3 17?

struggling to set up the dock with the HP zbook G3 17. Updated the Bios and downloaded and installed relevant drivers. The computer “see’s” the dock…that is it. Ethernet won’t work though it, nor a monitor via DVI to displayport. I haven’t attempted a DVI to Thunderbolt as I haven’t gotten an adapter. Why bother if I can’t get anything else to work

Hi Cory,

Thanks for posting, and I would be happy to help with your new Plugable Thunderbolt 3 docking station (also known as the TBT3-UD1-83 -> http://plugable.com/products/tbt3-ud1…)

Just to set honest expectations up front, we do not have your specific model HP system in our test lab nor is it on our list of Compatible systems, so we will not be able to guarantee its compatibility with our docking station. Should there prove to be a model specific incompatibility, we will of course provide for a full refund with return of the dock to us directly, and we will even pay for the return shipping.

That said, our next step is to get some additional information. Can you confirm that you are using the Thunderbolt 3 cable that was included in the box to connect the dock to your HP system? I ask because 3rd-party cables may cause problems.

You don’t mention which version of Windows you are running, but if you are running Windows 7 you will need to install drivers for the dock’s Ethernet adapter and USB ports in order for them to work properly. Those drivers are available respectively here -> https://s3.amazonaws.com/plugable/bin… and here -> https://s3.amazonaws.com/plugable/bin… *** Important note, these drivers are for Windows 7 only. If you are running Windows 10 the necessary drivers should be installed via Windows Update automatically ***

You mention that you are connecting a DVI monitor to the dock. Are you using a Plugable brand DisplayPort to DVI adapter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GW8F774) to connect the display, and if not, can you provide a link to the adapter you are using? I again ask because 3rd-party adapters can cause problems.

Can you also let me know the brand and specific model monitor you are connecting? I ask because I wish to lookup the specifications online.

Thank you in advance for your patience, and giving us the chance to help!

Bob,

Thank you for following up. I decided to return the product after getting a on hand port replicator up and running. However this is still not an ideal solution as the Displaylink software prevents me from using the Nvidia control panel while it is plugged into the replicator, this is a known issue with my particular graphics card. Fortunately I only need this when I am demonstrating my CAD/CAM product while traveling. It seems that HP does not have it’s thunderbolt ports “hard wired” to the display port card like Apple and Dell. Hopefully as the technology matures and our company ditched HP to go back to Dell I will be able to circle back as this is clearly a better solution then a USB replicator.

Thanks again for the quick reply.
