External display not detected

Before I disconnected from the docking station I was able to use the external display and keep the laptop closed.

After reconnecting to the docking station and restarting the laptop everything else works but the external display is not detected.

I did a shutdown and startup – nothing changed. I repeated that process and the external monitor came to life. Go figure!
