Everything but display stops working until I unplug and plug in again

For the last week or two on most work days my mouse/keyboard/3.5mm audio/external HDD all stop working on my plugable dock. The way I fix this is by unplugging my thunderbolt cable from my Macbook Pro and plugging it back in. It’s not the end of the world but definitely not something I would like to be doing every day with my new dock and Macbook. The HDMI display keeps working and has had no problems. I can use my touchpad on my Macbook Pro when this problem occurs, its just all my non-display plugable connected devices that stop working.

Hello Jon,

Thank you for contacting Plugable support! Sorry to hear about this issue. I’d be more than happy to assist you.

As a starting point, I recommend we try the following procedures to see if there’s any improvement in the behavior (please note this is only for Intel Macs, if on the new M1 please skip to the next step for diagnostics below):

  1. Let’s try and SMC reset: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
  2. Let’s try and NVRAM/PRAM reset: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

If you still need to unplug and plug the dock back in, we have a troubleshooting tool that helps us find out what is going on in situations like this. Please plug the dock with your devices attached to it into your computer, then go to this page and follow the instructions there:

It would be ideal to get diagnostics in both a good and bad state for comparison. When emailing us the zip file diagnostics results to support@plugable.com, please mention ticket “331280”.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know of other questions.

Thanks again for contacting Plugable support and best wishes!
