My MacBook Pro is connected to the TBT4-UD5 and automatically connects to peripherals on the USB ports. However, the ethernet port is not showing up as a network option in the Network control panel. Is there something I have to do to make it available beyond just plugging in an ethernet cable from the TBT4-UD5 ethernet port to the router?

The Ethernet ports are not “activated” until an Ethernet connection is detected, so the Ethernet port on the dock will not be an available network until you connect it using an Ethernet cable.
Is there any particular reason you are trying to access it while not having it connected?
