Error Connecting: Driver Issue

Hey, I’m running macOS 10.14 and using OCLP, Opencore Legacy Patcher, to run macOS 13 on my MacbookPro9,1 (mid-2012 Macbook Pro 15”). I first tried installing the drivers on the macOS 13 with the latest 13.1 Displaylink Manager. When having the Manager application running, so that the icon is in the menu bar, and plugging in the docking station via usba (my laptop doesnt have usbc), the application crashes and generates a crash report. When the docking station is already plugged in and I run the Manager application, it launches for a second and then crashes again. I tried consulting AI (prob a mistake) and it suggested to try DisplayLink v1.10, as the issue seemed to be an unsupported CPU. Crashed similarly. Here are the two crash reports:
DisplayLink v13.0.0 Crash: https://pastebin.com/tVLLz3Yt

DisplayLink v1.10.3 Crash: https://pastebin.com/Pp08drjk

When trying to use the legacy 5.2.6 for my macos 10.14, I get a different result. When plugging in the device, I get a notification (not typical macos notif) saying “Your drivers are not compatible with your Plugable UD-3900 device. Go to the manufacturer’s support site or www.displaylink[.]com to get the latest drivers before you can use your device.” (see below)

Does anyone know any solutions to this? I know legacy is unsupported but I’d love to get this working on both the macos 10.14 (more stable) and my macos 13 with OCLP (up to date but less stable).

Thanks!

Hi John,

Thank you for posting!

For your reference, Plugable does not support using any type of 3rd-party utility to run a version of macOS on hardware that Apple does not support.

In addition, Apple no longer provides support for macOS 10.14 due to its age, and Plugable does not recommend or support using any operating system that is no longer supported by the manufacturer.

As a result we are afraid we do not have any solutions to offer in this instance.

Apologies we are unable to provide a solution in this specific case!

Hey Bob,

Thanks for the response. Is there anything I can do get the Plugable running on my laptop? Even though Apple doesn’t support macos 10.14, the Displaylink drivers and Plugable worked on 10.14 at some point, so there must be a solution, right?

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

As mentioned previously, Plugable does not recommend or support using any operating system that is no longer supported by the manufacturer.

As a result, we are afraid we do not have any solutions to offer in this instance.

Apologies once again that we are unable to offer a solution in this specific case!

Bob
