Dual 4k monitor docking station

I can’t get my monitors to display plugged into the dock station. I have an HDMI to USB convertor and it isn’t working with docking station. I have verified the convertor does work so that is not the issue.

Hi Kim,

Thanks for reaching out to us, I am sorry this is not working as expected and I am happy to help!

First off, I would like to start by getting the specific model of the docking station, it should be on the bottom of the docking station in the form of “UD-****”. Additionally, please let me know the manufacturer name and model number of the USB 3 to HDMI graphics adapter.

Some USB 3 graphics adapters from other vendors may not be compatible with the DisplayLink hardware and software used in our docking stations. I would like to start by checking to see if this adapter is incompatible with our docking station and potentially causing the docking station to be non-functional.

Thank you,

Pat

Model UD-6950
I don’t see a name and model number for the USB3 to HDMI graphics adapter. Can you suggest a good USB to HDMI adapter?

Also both of my monitors take HDMI cables. so do I need to get 2 HDMI to USB connectors or can I just use one and the second monitor can be plugged into my laptop USB port?

Hi Kim,

Thanks for checking, without a manufacturer name and model name I doubt it is using DisplayLink and is likely not compatible with our docking station.

Based on your description of the behavior, our next step is to get some additional information from your system to help determine which chipset the USB to HDMI adapter is using so I can provide software removal instructions and re-installation instructions for the DisplayLink software to help get the docking station working and I can then recommend a similar graphics adapter that will be compatible with the docking station.

If you would, please keep the dock and USB graphics adapters connected and monitors attached (even though one is not working) and attach the output of our diagnostic utility PlugDebug ( http://plugable.com/support/plugdebug ) to an email to our support team at ‘support@plugable.com’ with the subject line ‘Ticket #298444 - Attention Pat’ as this will allow us to examine some log files from your system to help determine the next steps.

Thanks,

Pat

Pat,

Can you send me a link to the exact driver needed to download please? I didn’t do that so maybe that is the issue.

Thank you,

Kim

Hi Kim,

Sure thing, the driver can be downloaded from our drive page here ( https://plugable.com/drivers/displaylink ) or using the direct link here ( recommended as of March 2020: https://plugable.s3.amazonaws.com/bin/DisplayLink/DisplayLink+USB+Graphics+Software+for+Windows+9.2+M3.exe ).

After downloading the DisplayLink software, double-click on the executable to start the installation and follow the on screen instructions. Please restart the computer when complete.

I recommend not connecting the USB graphics adapter to the system until after you have fully tested out the docking station to make sure these displays are working. If you do reconnect the graphics adapter and it is from a competing vendor it may cause the displays connected to the docking station to go offline.

Thank you,

Pat,

The driver is installed and my company desktop team said I should buy the HDMI to USB convertor you recommend. Can you provide me with that information so I can order?

Thanks,
Kim

Can you please provide a link to an HDMI to USB convertor that is compatible with your docking station?

Hi Kim,

For the USB to HDMI adapter, we have a couple of options:

If you have a 1080P (1920x1080) or lower resolution display then our USB 3 to HDMI/DVI/VGA graphics adapter UGA-3000 ( https://plugable.com/uga-3000 ) will be a good fit.

For resolutions above 1080P, up to 4K at 30Hz, our USB 3 to 4K HDMI graphics adapter UGA-4KHDMI ( https://plugable.com/uga-4khdmi ) will be a good fit, this will also work for lower resolution monitors but it does cost more than the UGA-3000 and may not be necessary.

Please let me know if this helps or if you have any additional questions, if you are unsure of the monitor’s resolution let me know the manufacturer name and model number and I will be happy to look it up for you.

Will this one work?
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Plugable+USB+3.0+HDMI%2FDVI%2FVGA+Adapter+for+Multiple+Monitors&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

Hi Kim,

This one ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A2E1MQA/ ) from the top of those search results is our UGA-3000 and is compatible with our docking stations and supports a single additional display up to 1920x1080 (1080P) resolution.

Please let me know if this helps,

Pat

I have ordered. Please keep ticket open until I receive and verify it works.

Thanks,

Kim

Hi Kim,

Thanks for letting me know, we keep these tickets open normally for 10 days, but they will automatically close at 20 days of inactivity. If the ticket has closed before you receive the adapter ( due to Amazon’s delayed shipments with the COVID-19 pandemic delays ) then please feel free to open a new ticket or send me a direct email at ‘support@plugable.com’ with the subject line ‘Ticket #298444 - Attention Pat’ and I will be sure to receive it and can provide any assistance from there.

Thank you,

Pat
