Docking Station (UD-6950PDZ) HDMI/Display Port 1 - Not Working

Hello,

HDMI/Displayport 1 on my docking station doesnt appear to work. My understanding is that all three ports on this dock use display link and there is no alt mode comptability causing issues here. I have three monitors connected to the dock and have cycled through all of them to test if it was a monitor issue, it was not. do you have any insight as to what may be the issue here?

Hello Jacob,

Thank you for contacting Plugable support. I’d be happy to help you with your inquiry.

The UD-6950PDZ does indeed use one port without DisplayLink technology and will require DisplayPort “alt-mode” to be supported by the host. We try to call attention to this in our product listings and webpages.

If your laptop does not support “alt-mode” we would strongly recommend returning the dock to your place of purchase. That said, we also may have a solution for 3 displays that do not require “alt-mode”.

If you’d like to know more about such a recommendation, just let us know.

Cheers,

Mychal

Hey Myke,

Thanks for the response, im willing to try this solution before returning.

Hello Jacob,

Apologies for not being clearer in my wording. By solution I meant a possible different recommendation.

That is, I would still recommend returning the UD-6950PDZ and picking up a combination of products. That said I would recommend the following:

UD-6950H (https://plugable.com/products/ud-6950h)
The UD-6950H dock will connect to your host using the included three foot long USB Type-C cable. There is also a USB-C to USB-A cable included in the box.

The UD-6950H provides the ability to connect up to two 3840 x 2160 (also known as 4K) resolution displays at up to a 60Hz refresh rate to the dock’s built-in DisplayPort and HDMI video outputs. Please note that the video cables themselves are not included.

The UD-6950H also provides six additional USB 3.0 Type-A ports (four on the front and two on the back) as well as a wired Gigabit Ethernet network port, a 3.5mm analog audio output jack (for speakers or headphones) and a 3.5mm analog audio input jack (for a microphone).

  • This dock does NOT provide power to the host system. The power cable that was included with your computer will still need to be plugged in.

In addition to this dock, you could then pick up a UGA-4KHDMI (https://plugable.com/products/uga-4khdmi) which will connect to your laptop or dock and give you a 3rd, 4K display.

Let me know if this helps!

Sincerely,
Myke
