Do I need 2 power cables, 1 for the docking station and 1 for the PC itself? Or, does the power cable from the wall to the docking station power the PC as well?
Hi Richard,
Thanks for reaching out to us, I am happy to answer your questions!
Most of our docking stations do not supply power to the system and you will need the power cable for the dock and for the system. However, some of our USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 docking station are capable of supplying power ( the system must also be capable of receiving power ).
Please let me know which docking station you have purchased or are interested in and the manufacturer name and model number of the PC and I can check to see if the docking station will be capable of charging the system.
Thank you,
Pat

The PC is a Dell XPS12
Hi Richard,
Thanks for getting back to me, unfortunately Dell has made XPS 12 models with different hardware configurations. Please let me know the Dell Service Tag ( normally located on the bottom ) so I can look up the exact model number and hardware configuration for this system so I can help to answer your questions.
Thank you,
Pat

Not sure if this helps. There is no service tag number on the PC. It is a company issued unit.
XPS9233
Hi Richard,
Unfortunately the Device ID is not a referenced number for hardware configurations. The XPS9233 designation does find some results for the Dell XPS 12 Two-in-One with the rotating screen. This computer does not support charging from our docking stations and will require the original power supply to be connected for prolonged use on a USB 3.0 docking station.
Our docking stations require software from DisplayLink to drive the external displays. I recommend checking with your Company’s IT department to make sure you have administrator privilege on the system to install the required software.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks, the docking station works great, just didn’t want to unplug the power every time. It’s not a big deal.
