DisplayPort-HDMI Issues (Dell P2014H)

Hi, I recently bought two Dell P2014H monitors and a Plugable UD3900. The monitors support VGA and DisplayPort, so I bought a DP-HDMI cable off of Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01…) and am having some trouble getting the monitor to work (it isn’t being detected). Do I need to get a different adapter or do I just need to install a driver or something? Thanks!

Hi Brad,

Thanks for posting!

The cable you purchased from Amazon with a DisplayPort connector on one end and an HDMI connector on the other end is a passive cable that is only designed to work in one direction, to convert from a DisplayPort output to a HDMI input, not the other way around as you are trying to do. Amazon mentions this in the body of the cable product listing, “It can only convert signal from DisplayPort to HDMI. This is not a bi-directional adapter”

Looking at the specifications of your monitor’s here -> http://www.dell.com/ae/business/p/del… it appears they offer DisplayPort, DVI and VGA inputs. Since both units have DVI inputs, an alternative solution would be to purchase an inexpensive HDMI to DVI cable, for an example -> http://amazon.com/dp/B014I8UQJY/

This cable can in fact work in both directions, and will allow you to connect from the dock’s HDMI output to the DVI input of the Dell monitor.

Please let us know if that information helps!
