Desktop folders don't exist

when I plug in my macbook pro M3 chips set my folders on my desktop have a tendency to disappear. Does anyone have an idea as to why?

Hi,

Thank you for contacting us, I am happy to help!

macOS will try to remember icon relative locations, and position on both the built-in and external display, when connecting or disconnecting the computer from the docking station it will try to re-arrange the icons to their previous locations. This can sometimes stack up icons, or move icons behind the dock.

The icon positions can be reset with the following process:

  1. Click on the desktop to select Finder
  2. Select View > Clean Up By > Name from the top-bar
  3. Rearrange the icons on the desktop as you need

This will both arrange the icons into alphabetical order, as well as into a grid pattern, they can also be arranged to the grid using the View > Clean Up option.

Please let us know if this helps to restore all of the icons both when the computer is connected to the docking station and when disconnected from the docking station.

Thank you,

Pat
