Desktop files/folders getting disorganized when connecting to ext. monitors using UD-3900.

I have a Pluggable UD-3900 docking station connected to Lenovo Yoga Pro 2. I use two monitors at work (HP Pavillion 22fi). Since the upgrade to Windows-10, i am facing a peculiar problem. Since i have a number of folders/files on the Desktop, I have them arranged in a particular manner to locate them easily. However when I connect to the external monitors (through Pluggable), they all get jumbled. Sometimes after disconnecting from the Pluggable, I see that it is all jumbled in the laptop’s desktop screen as well.

Hi Thulasiraj,

Thanks for posting. I’d be happy to help!

Based on your description it sounds like you are running into a common Windows bug that has existed for quite some time when using a laptop with multiple displays, and Windows moving icons when transitioning between states. This happened to me all the time when using a laptop with a traditional docking station (not a Plugable product) and if you search on the behavior you will find many with the same issue.

That said, there may be one potential simple fix, and that involves right-clicking on your desktop and selecting View -> Auto arrange icons to turn this feature off if it is turned on to see if that helps. If that doesn’t help, there is an inexpensive utility called Fences –> http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/ that some of our customers have reported works well. We can’t guarantee result with another companies product of course, but some may find the link useful.

Let us know if that information helps and we’ll go from there.

Thank you,

Bob
