Dell XPS 15 not getting enough power?

My recently purchased a USB-C Triple Display Docking Station to use with my Dell XPS 15 (9550). I get frequent disconnects unless I also have the laptop power supply attached. Without the power supply, upon reconnecting, I get a warning popup that says I need an approved 130 watt Dell adapter. I click ok, and after about one minute, everything normalizes. What do you suggest?

Hello Bryan,

Thank you for contacting Plugable support! Sorry to hear about this issue. I’d be more than happy to assist you.

The 130W message is normal when charging from USB-C and the dock should be able to charge the XPS at only 60W fine, just slower. This should not affect the docking station disconnecting. For that issue we’ll want to take a closer look at the system.

We have a troubleshooting tool that helps us find out what is going on in situations like this. Please plug the dock into your computer, then go to this page and follow the instructions there:

Please don’t hesitate to let us know of other questions.

Thanks again for contacting Plugable support and best wishes!
