Connecting a Lenovo Q24i-1L monitor to Lenovo C740-14IML

My laptop only has USB-C and USB 2.0. No USB 3.0 or built-in HDMI/VGA ports (I wish). I have been unsuccessful connecting to my monitor using USB-C - it detects the monitor but it doesn’t actually show a display. I tried messing around with updating the drivers etc but to no avail.

Does pluggable have an adapter that will help me? I can provide my software/driver information if that would be more helpful. I am located overseas so it’s not so simple to purchase it and send it back if it doesn’t work - that is why I am asking before purchasing it.

Thank you

Hello Saul,

Just a follow-up. I apologize, I didn’t notice the computer specs in the posting title.

Based on the specs of your Lenovo C740 Laptop, this device should have no issues driving a USC-C monitor.

The Q24i-1L monitor doesn’t seem to support a USB-C connection.

What type of adapter is being used to connect this HDMI monitor to the USB-C port on your laptop?

With this information, I can provide you with the next steps.

Thank you,

Omar D.

I am currently using a USB-C to HDMI adapter which I bought online. I assume the adapter is the problem.

The monitor is recognized by the computer, and it indicates that it is extending the display, but it doesn’t display anything on the monitor itself. It also causes the display on my laptop itself to flash. I tried messing with some of the settings but to no avail.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Saul,

Thank you for reaching back out with that information.

We offer a similar adapter to the one that you’re currently using.

Our usbc-thdmi USB-C adapter would be a good option for your Lenovo system.

Alternatively, our UD-CAM docking station would also support your HDMI monitor.

Lastly, the USB-C port that supports a display on your Lenovo laptop is located towards the back of the laptop.

I’ve included a screenshot of your system to indicate the (DP)Enabled port. (Port 3)

Thank you,

Hi Omar,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Could you send me the links for the products you are specifically referring to? There are a lot of different options and I want to get the right one.

Also, is there any technical reason to believe that these adapter options would work better than the one that I purchased, which is currently not working?

Thanks for the help with this

Hello Saul,

Thank you for reaching back out.

The recommended products can be found here:
usbc-thdmi -https://plugable.com/products/usbc-thdmi
UD-CAM- https://plugable.com/products/ud-cam

Also, is there any technical reason to believe that these adapter options would work better than the one that I purchased, which is currently not working?

We’ve seen some adapters work and others cause issues, similar to the one you’re seeing.

For the most part, these adapters use the same technology. However, we’ve seen different manufacturers’ products can lead to incompatibility or inconsistency with your displays.

I hope I was able to answer your questions.

Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Omar D.
