I have a Plugable USB-C 4K Triple Display Docking Station and I need to connect an HDMI source (in). Since there is not any HDMI in to connect to, can I use a HDMI to USB-C adapter to accomplish this? I don’t necessarily need all the other things to work, just the HDMI.
Hi there,
Welcome to the community! I would be happy to help.
Our docking stations are designed to output video to external displays rather than receive video input from an HDMI source. Unfortunately, they cannot be used in the manner you intend. Also, the additional USB-C PD port on our docking station’s front does not support video input.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you,

Thanks for your reply. What I’m scratching my head over is that to hook up a laptop to this device, a USB-C cable is used, which I assumed would have some sort of video feed within the connection- prehaps a different video format is used? I’m also trying to “switch” between two laptops that would be using the USB-C port but there is not a commercially available option that I can find. I’m trying to avoid having to keep unplugging and plugging every time I need to switch fearing damaging the port. Any
help would be appreciated! Thanks.
Hi there,
The USB-C connection is necessary for DisplayPort Alt Mode (video) and Power Delivery. While our dock supports DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C for video, the user’s laptop or host device must also support this technology to pass through the video feed to the dedicated DisplayPort Alt Mode output on the docking station.
I understand your concern regarding the wear and tear of the USB-C port with constant reconnects. However, we currently do not offer, and I am unaware of any USB-C switches that would allow for power delivery and DisplayPort Alt Mode passthrough. Unlike standard USB 3.0 switches, integrating these additional protocols over USB-C makes it more complicated to develop a switch.
I hope this helps!
Thank you,
Adi
