Can I use an HDMI/DVI adapter on the HDMI port of the docking station

Need to plug into a non-hdmi monitor so I am buying an HDMI to DVI adapter to go to the monitor from the u3900 docking station. There are many types of HDMI to DVI adapters. Are there any adapter specifics I should know about.
