Big Disk Bummer

I have a 10tb disk in a plugable lay-flat docking station. Disk management in Win 10 saw two partitions, one 2 tb, one 7tb. It would allow me to mount the 2 tb partition, but not the 7tb. What gives?

Hi Gavin,

Thanks for contacting Plugable!

Sorry to hear that your hard drive volume size is not formatting as expected. In most cases, the issue you are describing can be solved by backing up any important data and reformatting the hard drive in the Plugable dock.

First - are you using a brand new hard drive, or a hard drive that was previously installed somewhere else?

Here are links to get started depending on which type of hard drive applies to you. Let me know if any particular step is an obstacle.

For new hard drives:

For hard drives with existing data:

Next, there are a few troubleshooting steps that you can perform to isolate the cause of the issue:

  1. Test the same hard drive and dock in a different computer to eliminate any potential issues with your current computer

  2. Test the same dock with a different hard drive in the same computer to eliminate any potential issues with your current hard drive

  3. Test a different USB cable with the dock if you have one available to eliminate a potential bad USB cable

Please email me at support@plugable.com with what you find out and I can provide next steps.

Thank you,
Jordan

Thanks, Jordan. It was my fault. I had it set as an MBR drive, when it should have been GPT. When I realised what had happened and changed it, all was well!

But thanks again for your concern, and taking the time to reply.
