Best laptop to support 6 monitors

Hello,
I want to purchase a laptop that has the proper graphics / cpu to handle 6 monitors. No gaming, only for office use. What laptop would you recommend? Once I have that laptop, what equipment do I need to facilitate this setup?

Thanks

Hi Rahim,

Thanks for reaching out to Plugable support! I’d be happy to help with that.

Typically the best laptop to get for this type of setup would be one that supports Thunderbolt 3 or 4 as they will support the maximum amount of displays that can be connected to the native graphics card before needing to use additional display extensions that can tax the central processing unit of your computer.

Before providing a good recommendation as to the hardware you would use to connect the six displays, it would be most helpful if you could give us an idea of the expected resolution and refresh rate that you’re looking for with these displays. Additionally, if you have a preferred connection type, such as HDMI or DisplayPort, that would be very helpful as well.

Thank you for giving us a chance to help.

Thanks for the reply. I am only going to be using this for office use, so 4k is not needed. **60Hz is sufficient for my needs. No preferred connection type for hdmi or displayport

Hi Rahim,

Thanks for the update.

We do not offer a six monitor docking station. One way to achieve six monitors would be to make use of one of our USB-C quad display docks such as the UD-3900C4 dock, then connect two of our USB 3.0 graphics adapters (UGA-2KHDMI) to drive the other displays. I would recommend you take a look at their products pages for additional information.

There are a few important details to keep in mind:

  • Our UD-3900C4 dock and UGA-2KHDMI adapter relies on a USB graphics technology known as DisplayLink. DisplayLink graphics is great for general office or productivity use, but we do not recommend DisplayLink for any graphics intensive tasks such as gaming
  • Please note that the maximum number of display we support via DisplayLink is 6. With each additional display, more resources are required from the CPU and GPU of the computer, which can result in imperfect display performance depending on the graphics burden
  • Does not support HDCP (copy-protected) content playback from Blu-ray/Netflix/Prime/iTunes/Hulu/etc.
  • The above recommendations are made assuming your six monitors are standard 1920x1080 monitors. If you are looking to do this setup with higher resolution (4K) screens, these solutions will not work

If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks!

Is there any laptop specs that you would recommend based on your suggestions?

Is there any laptop specs ( or PC specs ) that you would recommend based on your suggestions?

Hi RAHIM,

Thanks for the update.

This can get a little bit complicated, but you do want to make sure that you’re connecting this to a computer that supports Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 as the easiest way to figure out compatibility with a host computer.

It should be noted that MacOS systems do not support the critical technology used in these docking stations known as MST.

I hope this is helpful.
