ASIX 88178 USB Ethernet Adapter on Ubuntu 11.10 Linux

I think this is the best USB adapter on the market, however;

I cannot seem to get the plugable usb ethernet adapter to function with ubuntu 11.10, the drivers compile without error, however, I have yet to get dhcp working, static IP address looks like it should work, but does not … any idea’s / new drivers?

Also posted this issue here …http://plugable.com/2010/10/18/howto-… (using LINUX2.6.35_Driver_v3.5.0)

I have the adapter working fine with Win 7 and Mac 10.6.8 and OSX Lion …

I am going to try the v4.1.0 version drivers … any support / help would be great …

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Glyn.

Hi Glyn,

Thanks for posting, and thanks for your patience! We need to update the instructions for more recent kernels.

Can you run “uname -a” and let us know what kernel version you’re on? (we’ll make sure the update is at least up to that version).

And we’ll reply back here when the updates to our instructions are done.

Thanks!
Bernie

A quick update: Glyn got his working, and he kindly posted the details: http://plugable.com/2010/10/18/howto-…

We’ll also be making sure from our side that our directions are up to date for Ubuntu 11.10 and the recent distros.

Thanks!
Bernie

Hi … had a sleep on it, I had checked everything which is why I was so puzzled … removed all ASIX drivers.

Then updated Ubuntu 11.10;

>sudo apt-get update
>sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

… re-installed following your original instructions, using a managed static IP (have not checked DHCP, I am using for a server) and “POW” the adapter is up and working, also working is a Belkin Gigabit USB 2.0 Network Adapter F5D5055 (same drivers) …

uname -a information:
Linux 3.0.0-12-server #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 16:36:30 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Many thanks for your support email and original instructions …
