I’ve been generally very satisfied with this docking station.
But now I’m considering upgrading my monitor so I have questions about the compatibility of this dock with more advanced features and also does USB4 bring additional benefits?
So, my questions are:
Can it support HDR (through either DisplayPort or HDMI output)?
Can it support refresh rate > 60 Hz (through either DisplayPort or HDMI output)?
Can it support resolutions higher than 4K (for example 3840x2560) (through either DisplayPort or HDMI output)?
Can USB4 port (instead of previous USB versions) on a laptop enable better modes (not only “dual 1080p 60Hz or single 4K 30Hz display” as in the dock description) ?

1. Can it support HDR (through either DisplayPort or HDMI output)?
The TBT3-UDC3 does not officially support HDR displays over the DisplayPort or HDMI outputs
2. Can it support refresh rate > 60 Hz (through either DisplayPort or HDMI output)?
While it can only officially support resolutions of 60Hz or less, some users (including myself) have been able to achieve higher refresh rates in their setups. My setup includes a 1440p display that can run at 170Hz refresh rate over DisplayPort. Other resolution / refresh rate combinations are not guaranteed though.
3. Can it support resolutions higher than 4K (for example 3840x2560) (through either DisplayPort or HDMI output)?
No. 4K resolution (4096x2160) is the maximum resolution this dock can achieve.
4. Can USB4 port (instead of previous USB versions) on a laptop enable better modes (not only “dual 1080p 60Hz or single 4K 30Hz display” as in the dock description) ?
We haven’t had the chance to test this dock with many USB4-only hosts. However, if the USB4 port supports DisplayPort 1.4, we would expect it to be able to support dual 4K displays at 60Hz. Again, full testing has not been done with these hosts, so results may vary.
