AC adaptor use on 10-port USB hub

Do I need to (or any reason to) plug in the AC adaptor when using the 10-port USB 2.0 hub while plugged into my desktop?

Hi Zach,

Thanks for posting your question here! When the hub’s power adapter is not connected, the hub is capable of running purely from bus power (from the host PC). This takes power from one USB port and shares it with all the devices that are connected.

When multiple devices are connected especially high power USB 2.0 devices that require close to 500 MA of power to power up and function, the power from the USB port on the upstream system will not be enough.

This would cause the first few devices to work and the rest of the devices to be disconnected from the host OS. Hence we recommend always using the power adapter for best results.

Hope the above information helps! if you need any additional information, please do feel free to shoot us an email at support@plugable.com. We are here to help!
