I’m not able to get my Sceptre C278W-1920R monitors to both work. They don’t work in the HDMI 4K port, and also don’t work from the displayport to DVI or HDMI.
I am running an ASUS Q542U laptop.

Unfortunately after looking up your ASUS model I do not believe that it will support the 4K HDMI port on our dock as your computer doesn’t seem to mention that it has USB-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode video output capabilities which our dock requires for the 4K to operate. However, the 2K HDMI and DVI/VGA utilize a different technology and just requires you to install the DisplayLink chipset drivers:
