I have a Surface Pro 2 Connected to Del U2711 Monitors. All of these are connected to the Plugable USB 3.0 Docking station. I would like 2560x1440 resolution so I have recently added the Plugable USB to HDMI adapters to try and get the 2560x1440 resolution on each monitor. It appeared from the documentation that this was possible, but I’m still having issues. All drivers are up to date. Can you tell me if this is possible or if I am doing something wrong?
Hi Bryce,
Unfortunately it looks like the U2711 model of Dell monitor only supports 2560x1440 via DisplayPort or dual-link DVI. HDMI input on this monitor is limited to 1920x1080/1080P. (And when converting HDMI to DVI, it’s “single-link” which also has a maximum of approximately 1080P, same as HDMI.)
I really wish Dell made this input information more readily available. A Dell rep confirms it in the following forum thread:

It’s also stated in the Dell user’s manual on page 33:
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/e…
“Set the screen resolution to 2560 x 1440 (DVI and DisplayPort) or 2048 x 1152 (VGA) or 1080p (HDMI, Component).”
The only option that I suspect will work given the above would be to return the current adapters, and then purchase DisplayPort USB graphics adapters:

By all means let us know if you have any questions on the above.
Thanks!
