2022 13inch Macbook Pro M2 Dual Monitor Extended view

Hi, has anyone with 2022 13" Macbook Pro M2 successfully configured external dual monitor extended view with USBC-6950PDZ?

Hi Jay,

Thank you for contacting us, I am happy to help!

This docking station is compatible with Apple MacBook computers for supporting two external displays, relying on DisplayLink graphics technology and the DisplayLink Manager App for macOS.

The two HDMI outputs are controlled by DisplayLink USB Graphics Technology, this is a combination of software on the computer and hardware on the docking station which extends the capability of the computer to support more displays than the computer was designed to support. This requires installing the DisplayLink drivers for Windows ( https://plugable.com/drivers/displaylink ) or the DisplayLink Manager App for macOS and configuring macOS to support the external displays ( for macOS 13 and 14: https://kb.plugable.com/1595423, for macOS 11, and 12: https://kb.plugable.com/1185378 ).

The most common cause of only one display being detected is if the DisplayLink Manager App is not updated to the latest version for macOS Sonoma ( macOS 14 or 14.1 ), either DisplayLink Manager App version 1.9 or 1.10 at the time of writing this reply ( 1.10 was recently released by DisplayLink ).

Based on your question, our first step is to reset the dock and perform a ‘clean’ installation of the latest DisplayLink Manager App to help ensure both are in a good state and reset any permissions issues. Please perform the following:

  1. Disconnect the dock from the system and please remove the power cable from the dock so it turns off completely (this is important so the unit resets). Please keep it disconnected until the last step.
  2. Restart the computer ( Apple Menu > Restart )
  3. Log into the computer and open the Finder > Go > Applications window
  4. Double-click on the “DisplayLink Software Uninstaller” and follow the onscreen steps to remove the DisplayLink software
4A) If you encounter an error where the DisplayLink Manager App is running and you cannot close it please continue with 4B-4E below:
4B) Open the Finder > Go > Utilities > Activity Monitor
4C) Scroll down and select the “DisplayLinkUserAgent” from the list
4D) Click on the button at the top of the screen to “Stop” the application ( an octagon with an ‘x’ in the center )
4E) Retry step #3, if it still will not uninstall please let me know and we can go from here
  5. When the software removal has completed please restart the computer ( Apple Menu > Restart )
  6. Log back into the computer and install the latest DisplayLink software following these detailed instructions ( for macOS up to version 12: https://kb.plugable.com/1185378, or for macOS 13 and 14: https://kb.plugable.com/1595423 )
6.1) Please download the DisplayLink Manager App version 1.10 from DisplayLink here ( https://www.synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics/downloads/macos ) at step #1 above if your computer has been updated to macOS 14 or 14.1
  7. Restart the computer when completed ( Apple Menu > Restart )
  8. Reattach the power cable to the dock first. Once the dock is powered on, reconnect it to your system and check for the displays and USB devices to be detected

Please let me know if this helps and if not we can go from here.

Thank you,

Pat

Thank you so much, I wanted to double check before purchasing USBC-6950PDZ. Ordering it now. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Jay,

Thanks for replying back, I misunderstood your question. To clarify, yes, the USBC-6950PDZ can support two external displays with Apple M1 systems, I recommend connecting the MacBook’s USB Type-C power supply to the docking station’s power port (opposite side from the host cable) to power both the docking station and pass through power to the computer.

Hi Pat,
Not M1, but I have M2. 2022 13" Macbook Pro M2
Would that still let me have Dual Monitors with Extended view?
Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

Thanks for asking, yes, Apple’s M1, M2, and M3 are all compatible with this docking station. The three generations of Apple’s ARM derived processors are very similar from a software and hardware compatibility perspective.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Thanks Pat, I’ve been researching for weeks, and below is the most informative so for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VFsQuTP6sE
And noticed that 2022 13inch Macbook Pro M2 doesn’t work, see in the youtube comments.
I know the video is not about USBC-6950PDZ, but would be great Plugable make a similar video with the problematic Macbook specifically the “2022 13 inch Macbook Pro M2” as Gary calls out in the video.

Hi Jason,

This video was an introduction to the M2 MacBook at the time of launch and only reflects compatibility at that time. For current compatibility I recommend referring to our product pages ( https://plugable.com/products/usbc-6950pdz ) for the USBC-6950PDZ docking station, the “Compatibility” tab will have detailed compatibility information.

With regard to the comments in the video, there are some users reporting that dual displays are not working, this can be caused by many factors from connecting the UD-ULTC4K docking station to the computer using Apple’s white USB Type-C “charging” cable included with MacBook systems, this cable does not include the high bandwidth data connections required to fully enable the UD-ULTC4K docking station’s features. This won’t affect the USBC-6950PDZ as this docking station has an integrated to host cable. The next most common issue is not installing, or not enabling the DisplayLink software, the guide linked in my first reply includes the steps necessary to enable and configure the DisplayLink software on the computer.

Currently we support all Apple Silicon (M1, M2, and now M3) computers with the two docking station’s featured in this video ( UD-ULTC4K and UD-6950H ) as well as our other USB Type-C Triple Display Docking Stations, and USB 3.0 Dual Display Docking stations, including the USBC-6950PDZ mini docking station.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions, or if there is anything else I can do to help, and have a great day!

Thanks Pat,
This definitely helped me on the purchase decision.
It’s now ordered, and looking forward to a successful result.
Jason.

Hi Jason,

You’re very welcome, thank you for choosing our product, and I hope you have a great day!

Happy to report the device simply worked. The purchase came with a 10% discount code, which I want to use on purchasing the same device for home use, but turns out the code is expired. I don’t suppose you can help on getting the current discount code? Btw, the tech support at my work wants to use the same dock on other employees having the same issue with the new MBP.

Hi,

Thank you for purchasing our docking station!

Regarding the discount code, we are looking into this issue.

I have replied back to your direct email regarding the discount code, please let me know if you did not receive that reply email.

Thank you,
