Windows vista to Windows 8.1 Error saying a utility has stopped working

I am transferring from a Windows vista PC to a Windows 8.1 PC. It says on the Vista PC that a utility has stopped working and it closes out the program. I can get to the point where I am able to choose the files I want transferred and then it says that error message. What do I need to do? I’ve already installed the displaylink driver on my 8.1 PC. Help!
