Hello, I am a tech support for led sign manufacturing company. We use prolific serial adapter to have our software communicate with the signs. Lately, we’ve been having problems with win7. I’v been trying out different versions of the driver; v1.7.0, 1.6.1, … One that seems to work for me is 2.0.9.122 7/16/2009 version, but only when version 10518 was installed previously( The 2.0.9.122 seems to appear when version 10518 is installed on). Do you know why this is happening? I, also, purchased your adapter, and tried your drivers (cd and download). But these don’t work on my win7 64 bits PC.
Hi Aaron,
Thanks for posting, we’ll be happy to help. Sorry to hear about the frustrating experience you are having with your serial cable. I’m not sure what went wrong there, but to get your Plugable USB to Serial cable working we need to get all of your other drivers uninstalled.
To do this, plug in the serial cable and open device manager, click on the driver tab. Next click on uninstall and be sure to select the check box to “Delete the driver software for this device”.
Now unplug the cable and reboot the system. Once it’s rebooted, plug the cable back in and click cancel for Windows update driver search if it starts. If it is able to install the cable, go to device manager and uninstall the drivers as above. Reboot and repeat the process until there are no longer any drivers that match against the Plugable USB to Serial Cable.
Now, unplug and reconnect the USB to Serial cable and let Windows update install the drivers. It will install driver version 3.4.36.247. These definitely work with our cable on Windows 7 64 bit.
I hope this helps!
Let me know how it goes,
Jerome.
