Hi, I’m trying to figure out which docking device I should buy for a new laptop setup.
The new machine (Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6G) has USB-C, Intel UHD Graphics 620, and a WQHD (2560x1440) display. I would like to get a docking solution that uses the laptop’s USB-C output and that can drive a 2560x1440 external monitor. I need at least 3 USB 3.0 jacks, Ethernet, and analog audio out.
Can someone advise me on which Plugable model I should get? E.g. is the “Plugable USB-C Triple Display Docking Station” able to drive an external monitor at 2560x1440 or not? Thanks!
Hi Bill,
Thank you so much for reaching out to us, I would be more than happy to answer your questions.
The Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6G should be compatible with all of our individual USB-C docking stations, as long as it is not a specific custom configuration. Based on the fact that you are looking for Audio, USB, Ethernet, and the ability to output to a single display, the best compatible docking station would be our UD-CAM (www.plugable.com/products/ud-cam). The UD-CAM supports all of the features you are looking for, and will allow you to connect a display via HDMI with resolutions up to 4K@30Hz supported (2560x1440 at 60Hz).
I hope this information helps, please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns, and I would be more than happy to help!
Thank you for your time,
Marc
