The docking station created a loud alarm, something akin to a smoke detector, yesterday. I unplugged the unit but don’t know what caused the alarm.

None of our docks have a speaker or buzzer inside to cause the beeping so must be coming from some other device attached to it.
What kinds of devices do you have attached?
