Computer recognizes the adaptor in devices and the USB 3 part works but network cable is not recognized

When you plug the Ethernet cable into the adapter, do the green or amber lights come on?
Do you have another Ethernet cable to swap in and test with to make sure it isn’t a faulty cable?
Do you have another system other than the Surface to test the unit on?
Let me know the results when you have a moment and we can go from there.
