I have two brand new Dell Ultrasharp 24 monitors. One works with the HDMI cable and the other does NOT work with the DVI to mini display port cable that I have. I have uploaded the latest driver, and even tried the mini display port to the other monitor and it didn’t work either. Finally, I swapped out the cables and they did not work either. Does the DVI cable need to have the 4 pins on it? Mine do not.
Hi Trent,
Thanks for posting. I’d be happy to help!
From your description it sounds like you are using a passive mini DisplayPort to DVI cable similar to his one –> http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DJCB83O
These types of cables can only allow for the conversion of a native DisplayPort output to a DVI input. They do not work in the other direction, so it will not work going from the DVI output of our dock to a mini DisplayPort input of your monitor. The listing for the above product calls out in the detailed description that the cable is not bi-directional.
If your Dell monitor also has a HDMI input in addition to the DisplayPort input, you can use a DVI->HDMI cable to make the connection as those are in fact bi-directional. An example would be this –> http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K7HECTQ
Let us know if that helps and we can go from there.
Thank you,
Bob
