Ubuntu 14.04 / Plugable USB-BT4LE works in A2DP, not HSP/HFP

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Plugable USB-BT4LE adapter
Kotion B3505 Headset

I can pair the machine with the headset, but it only works with the A2DP profile; HSP/HFP profile does not work. Also, when I boot the machine, I see the following with dmsg: “[113.858047] Bluetooth: can’t load firmware, may not work correctly”
Is this a know problem? Any workaround/fix for it?
