TBT3-UDV Thunderbolt 3 Dock Issue. When plugging in my dock in the morning with the laptop closed, only one of the monitors displays. I have to unplug and replug it a second time to get the other to start. Any ideas on why? Or is there any log on the Mac to show this?
Hi Brad,
Thanks for posting. Very unusual issue; we’ll be glad to help investigate.
Couple quick questions/suggestions:
-
If you connect the laptop to the dock with the lid open, does the same issue occur, or do both screens light on first-connect in this scenario?
-
It would be great to have a look at the System Report when it’s working with 1 display vs. 2. Could you please collect System Reports in each state? (Apple Menu -> About this Mac -> System Report -> File/Save)
Please email the system reports to support@plugable.com and we’ll dig in.
Thanks!
I have sent the reports in for your examination…
A few more details… I have two identical monitors.
#1 is plugged in over HDMI to the Plugable USB-C to HDMI active adapter. This adapter is plugged into the thunderbolt out port of the dock.
#2 is plugged in over HDMI to a Plugable DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. This adapter is plugged into the Display Port on the dock
When in failed state, the Mac thinks there are two screens attached based on the screen layout. In this state Monitor #1 above doesn’t receive a signal.
When in failed state, if the USB-C to HDMI adapter is un-plugged from the dock and re-plugged to the dock, the failed state remains.
The two plug required behavior seems to only be overnight when I first arrive at work, but not on subsequent plugs during the day. But that is anecdotal evidence. I will keep track throughout the day.
Tomorrow I will try with the lid open on first connect.
