Recommended Plugable USB 3.0 PCI-e Card for Dell Insprion 530 (DM33M03 MB)

Hello,

I have a Dell Insprion 530, MB is DM33M03. It has 2 PCI slots, 1 PCI-e 1x, and 1 PCI-e x16. I wish to purchase a PCI-e 3.0 card to have USB 3.0 capabilities. I am not an expert, but looked into PCI-e over the internet, and I have a concern about what version of PCI / PIC-e my computer uses. I am not 100% sure, but I believe it uses PCI 2.3 per the following site: http://www.foxconnchannel.com/Product….

My questions:

  1. Am I using PCI 2.3 (not sure why it isn’t called PCI-e 2.3)? Or, how to verify this? I am using Ubuntu 10.04LTS, which I believe you provide drivers compatible with Unbutnu/Linux - correct? I wish to know if PCI 2.3 will limit the capability of your Plugable PCI Express to SuperSpeed USB 3.0 2-Port Expansion Card for Desktops (NEC/Renesas Chipset) performance.
  2. Reading a different post (http://support.plugable.com/plugable/…) which is 1 year old, might there be any issues now with connecting to any particular external USB drives (GoFlex, WD, Phantom)?

Thank you for your reply in advance.
Tim

Hi Tim,

Thanks for asking ahead. It does look like your system should be compatible with our PCI-e USB 3 card and with any drives you connect to it. Occasionally there are systems that don’t work but this appears to be isolated to the individual systems, not specific motherboard models or manufacturers.

If you do find that the Plugable PCI-e USB 3.0 card won’t work with your system, you’ll be able to take advantage of Amazon’s 30 no hassle money back guarantee to return the item.

I hope this helps. If you do decide to try it out, we’d love to hear the results!

Thanks,
Jerome.
