Power cuts off when HDD is in the slot

Hi, I just purchased the Plugable 3.0 HDD docking station. I am running
into problems. When I plug in my 3.5in HDD into the slot, the power light
shuts off (no more green light). When I pull out the HDD, the light turns
green again. I tried switching out the 3.0 cable to the 2.0 cable but the
result is the same for both. How do I troubleshoot this problem?

Thanks for contacting Plugable Support, we’ll be happy to help. There could be a couple of different reasons why you’d see behavior like you are describing. Probably the most common is a bad drive. Do you have another drive that you could test with?

Also, look to see if there is an unpartitioned drive in your disk utility. Here’s a link to a troubleshooting guide with more detailed instructions for both Windows and Mac.
