Plugable USB 3 Dock gone bad

My Plugable USB 3.0 dock seem to have gone bad just 6 months after getting it - same issue on all 3 of our laptops running windows 8. The display on the external monitor either freezes or changes to a random color and remains this way even if I disconnect the USB cable from the laptop. Restarting the dock fixes the display.

Restarting the dock fixes it but just for a few minutes.
