Plugable UD-3900 Dual Display Universal Docking Station with two DVI monitors

I just got the Plugable UD-3900 Dual Display Universal Docking Station. The problem I have is that both my monitors have only VGA and DVI ports. I connected the first monitor DVI to the DVI of the Plugable and it works fine. I connected the second monitor VGA to the Plugable HDMI port using an VGA to HDMI connector and the second monitor is not being detected. What are my options? Will a DVI to HDMI connector work? or my only option is to buy a new monitor with HDMI port?

Hi Venkata,

Thanks for posting your question here! I’d recommend using an HDMI to DVI cable to connect the HDMI port on the dock to the monitor via DVI. If you use the HDMI to DVI cable, you can plug it in to the HDMI port on the dock on one end and the DVI input port on the monitor on the other end.

When you use the HDMI to DVI cable, the conversion from HDMI to DVI is passive as they are both basically the same connection with a different form factor with HDMI having additional audio functionality. This means that the HDMI signal is being converted to DVI-D (DVI digital only) signal.

If you need any additional information, please do feel free to shoot us an email at support@plugable.com. We are here to help!
