Plugable 3900 docking station "We can't find another screen..."

First time docking station user, so it’s possible I’m not doing things correctly.The instructions seem to assume some prior knowledge on how to do this stuff.

I first downloaded the latest software updates from displaylink.com. I plugged everything in using the VGA connection for my HP w2408h monitor. Using the Project menu I tried to connect to second screen only. I got error message “We couldn’t find another screen to connect to. Check connections and try again.” I tried connecting with hdmi and also go the same error. Appreciate any advice.

We worked with Angela via our email ticketing system on this issue. For the benefit of those who may see this post while researching, a clean reinstallation of the drivers seemed to do the trick. The process for this is as follows:

-Disconnect the dock from the computer

-Uninstall DisplayLink Core software from Control Panel->Programs. Don’t worry if this fails, just move onto the next step.

-Download and run the DisplayLink cleaner tool, found here:

-Once the Cleaner has been run, reboot (even if not prompted to)

-Now download and run the latest DisplayLink software, found here:
http://www.displaylink.com/support/sl…

-Reboot, even if not prompted to

-Once you’re back in Windows, reattach the dock and let it install and update the firmware which should happen automatically.
