The latest windows 10 update (which took HOURS) downloaded/installed today (August 21) gave me a message when it was completed that the Display Link driver was removed because it was not compatible with the update. Is the current driver on the website (9.0 M1) compatible with the latest Windows 10 update? If not, what do I do?

If your UD-3900 docking station is still working as expected then there is no further action needed. To expand further, the notification you received indicates that an earlier version of the driver may have been removed from your system, however it does not state that an updated version was installed automatically.
As a result, if everything is still working as expected then no further action is necessary. To your question, the latest version we recommend of the required DisplayLink driver (https://plugable.com/drivers/displaylink/) is compatible with the latest Windows 10 update.
If the dock is not working as expected, the best first step is to perform a manual ‘clean’ installation of the driver by following these steps:
- Please disconnect the dock from the system and please disconnect the power cable from the dock so it turns off completely (this is important so the unit resets). Please keep everything disconnected until the last step.
- Uninstall any and all software with ‘DisplayLink’ in the title that is present from within the Control Panel → Programs and Features. Don’t worry if these entries are not present or if the process does not work, please just move onto the next step.
- Download and run the DisplayLink Installation Cleaner utility, found here → https://s3.amazonaws.com/plugable/bin/DisplayLink/DisplayLink+Installation+Cleaner+9.1.1462.exe and ensure it displays “Cleaning Complete” when done (video walk-through if you need it → https://youtu.be/AcVV1gD_FvI)
- Once the Cleaner has been run, reboot the system (even if not prompted to).
- Now download and install the 9.0 M1 DisplayLink software driver, found here → https://s3.amazonaws.com/plugable/bin/DisplayLink/DisplayLink+USB+Graphics+Software+for+Windows+9.0+M1.exe
- Reconnect the power cable to the dock first. Once the dock is powered on (a blue light will be present on the front), reconnect it to your system. If the device is not detected, please reboot the system.

Thanks for the Quick response Pluga_Bob. Actually, despite the onerous Windows message, it has been working just fine. Initially, the attached monitors did not work. But after disconnecting the DisplayLink docking station from my laptop, unplugging it, plugging it back in, then reconnecting to my laptop, everything has been working just fine.
Regardless, do you think I should still update the driver to 9.0 M1?

In regard to your follow-up question, yes, I would recommend updating to the latest DisplayLink driver we recommend using the ‘clean’ installation procedure I described previously (this helps ensure the most optimal performance).

I had a different problem. I just updated Windows 10 (long update). Everything works, but I have the Plugable 4K Dual Monitor dock. Both 4k extended screens are washed out and very bright now. I have used this adapter for over a year with no problems. Trying to manually adjust the brightness doesn’t really help.
