Display Weirdness, Narcoleptic MacBook Pro.

I’m using the Plugable hub with a new MacBook Pro and a 27" Samsung monitor: I have problems with the following:

When I connect my laptop to the hub, the screen shows different (older) wallpaper than what is on the laptop. Mysteriously, the desktop contents are not on the screen. If I close the laptop, the screens sync up.

I’m often unable to get the laptop to wake up when the screen is closed by clicking the mouse or typing on the keyboard. In order to wake the computer, I have to open the screen. I then get a message about my external hard drive not being ejected properly. Half the time this fixes it, the other half of the time I have to unplug the laptop from the hub and get similar messages about not ejecting my external hard drive properly. Sometimes I have to restart my laptop. I would rather not have to shut down and start my laptop every time that I leave it for a while in order for the hub to work.

I think our first step should be to get a system report to see what might be going on. Here’s how:
