Now, can I use this device to connect a USB scanner to an Ethernet backbone?

Thanks for posting your question here! Although you haven’t mention which of our products your query is about, we do not have any products that can be used to connect a USB scanner to the Ethernet backbone. So the answer is definitely no. Sorry about that!
I’m assuming that your query was about one of our USB Ethernet adapters. They are only intended to be connected to an upstream computer system in order to add an Ethernet port.They are USB devices themselves (just like the USB scanner) and cannot be connected to other USB devices. This is because as per USB specifications, a USB device can only be connected to an upstream host computer and not to another USB device.
